Why? All his life, Adlai had been haunted by this question. Why? It was a small word for so large a pain and a short question for so long a tale for his tale was long. It had started but nine days after he was born.

 

Nine days. He had only been alive for nine days. Yet, in that time it was already decided. In a world where everyone had magic, Adlai would have none. In a world where everyone could light a flame, he could not. In a world of light, he would sit in darkness, and, in a world of joy, pain would be his companion.

 

Why? Would someone please tell him why? Why was this his fate? Why would Holzana decide so? Why? Why?

 

Alas, it seemed there would be no answer. Only a silence broken by the end of days. For who could meet a God and ask him why? No one. Unless…Unless He gave them that chance. Unless He made that chance.

 

And this Quest was it.

 

But what was the price? And could Adlai pay it?
